Analytical Memo: Student Independent Media Projects

I believe there were a couple of independent media outlet projects that were absolutely viable. Will's pitch of Emergent stuck out to me the most because of his ideas for content on his podcast. I thought the concept of profiling gamers and learning more about their lives is a great idea, especially for increasing the awareness and popularity of what it is like to be a professional gamer. I wish sports news outlets did this more with other sports, such as women's sports, that are not as appreciated as other sports. Sharing the stories of gamers will establish a way in which listeners can connect with professional gamers on a more personal level. One suggestion I have for Will is to devise a tagline. I love the name of the podcast, but a clear tagline that directly explains what this podcast is about would be very beneficial.

The others that I enjoyed and thought were achievable were Kelli's Community Cast: Podcasts for the People, Max's Sidelines Online Magazine: Covering Sports from the Pitcher's Mound to Capitol Hill, Kim's Bite-Sized Nutrition: Food Science You Can Understand and Isabella's La Migra: By Latinos, For Latinos. I thought Kelli's pitch was a great idea since podcasts are a blossoming medium and her project would certainly help cultivate them at a local level. Max's project is absolutely viable because over the past couple of years, we have seen athlete activism rise to an all-time high from Colin Kaepernick's protests of the National Anthem, to NBA players speaking out and protesting. So there is certainly a great demand for commentary on this subject matter. I liked Kim's idea of simplifying studies on nutrition because there is such a high demand for this as well. Just about everyone is concerned with what they are eating and how much they are eating, but have trouble comprehending the terminology that is used in nutrition research. I also thought Isabella's pitch was viable in how she addressed the faults with her competitors in El PAÍS and El Mundo, and how she would fill in those gaps with the content she will publish.
